CS2 Retake Servers: How to Train Retaking the Site

Retakes are the training mode closest to a real match: 3v3-4v4 on the site, live opponents, a ticking defuse timer. It builds what aim can't — positioning, utility under time pressure, and clutch decisions. The progress marker is a steady 50%+ of retakes won per session.

What this drill is

Retake servers are the purest form of sparring: you spawn into a planted-bomb situation and have a minute to decide how to retake/hold the site. They build fast situation-reading and utility use under pressure.

How to train it

Where: Cybershoke (retake servers, free, log in via Steam) or RefraG; or filter by the "Retake" tag in the community server browser. ESEA is dead for this.

Routine (25 min): 1. 5 min warm-up: just frag, get used to the spawns and timings. 2. 15 min deliberate: before each round decide a plan (where you go in, what utility) and talk through what went wrong. 3. 5 min focused on one side (CT: flash + swing; T: post-plant crossfire / fake defuse).

Common mistakes: mindlessly running at the bomb with no flash; not checking how many players are left; throwing utility on autopilot instead of for a specific push.

Metric: a retake is a compressed decision-making drill. The goal isn't K/D but whether you read the round and used the right utility in time. 2-3 correct executes beat 5 random frags.
