HSDM in CS2: Headshot-Only Deathmatch — How and Where to Train

HSDM is a deathmatch where only headshots count — the mode forces you to keep your crosshair at head level, and the muscle memory builds itself. Head Accuracy climbs and your crosshair placement sharpens. This is the second step after workshop aim: the skill you built on static bots carries over to live opponents, 20 minutes a day.

How many minutes of this drill do you actually need? DrillMaster decides from your matches — and schedules it when it pays off most.

What this drill is

Deathmatch where only headshots count — the constraint itself forces you to keep your crosshair at head level and finish kills in one bullet. The most direct way to level up crosshair placement; K/D isn't the goal here, it's training.

How to train it

DM is training, not running around: before you drop in, pick ONE focus (zone defense / position prefire / counter-strafe + burst / Deagle taps) and drill only that. HSDM's value is the constraint: a body hit doesn't count, so you're forced to keep your crosshair on the head and finish in one shot.

Entry rules (for any focus): • After spawning, strafe on the spot — don't run on W. On DM there's someone around every corner, and with W held you can't counter-strafe and you're an easy target. • Peek with strafes, stop with a counter-strafe rather than Ctrl — the frag comes faster off a counter-strafe (Ctrl often isn't an option). • Make your strafes wide: on a short strafe the model doesn't build up speed, so you're easy to hit. • Keep your crosshair at head level and out wide, where the enemy actually steps out — don't hug the walls (on DM people run through the middle; at the wall you lose a split second dragging your aim). • Sound ON (at least 30%) — peek whoever you hear. • Don't grind your hand for 20-30 min straight: 2 minutes → half a minute spectating. A wooden hand in a match is worse than an under-fragged DM.

HSDM emphasis: taps/bursts to the head only, don't hold a spray.

Common mistakes: running on W; short strafes; crosshair hugging corners; switching to knife/pistol and inspecting your weapon (you lose 1-2 min out of 10 and die with a knife in hand); chasing K/D instead of accuracy.

Where to play: Cybershoke (HSDM servers, de_mirage/dust2/inferno/anubis), WarmupServer.net (free, Headshot mode), xplay.gg (HS Only, shows the server's average FACEIT level).

Metric: not K/D (frags on DM earn you nothing), but accuracy under your chosen focus. In matches the carryover shows in your HS% after regular HSDM.

Focus options

Holding an Angle
Zone defense: strafe on the spot, keep your crosshair at head level where you'll get peeked, and meet the incoming enemy with a counter-strafe and a burst. Don't defend spawn or dead positions — stand where the action happens.
Position Prefire
Position prefire: you go peek every default spot yourself — wide strafes (not short ones), stop with a counter-strafe, burst to the head. Crosshair at head level BEFORE the peek.
Counter-strafe + Burst
Counter-strafe + burst: wide strafe → instant stop with an A/D tap → burst to the head → keep going. Not short strafes (the model doesn't brake) — wide ones.
Deagle Taps
Deagle taps: strafe → counter-strafe → one tap to the head → frag. The Deagle forgives a micro-step less than anything — a clean indicator of your stop and aim.
